Burruchaga Raises the Unemployment Rate in Argentina

By: Jeremy | March 22nd, 2009

Yep, on the same weekend that Pepe Santoro won and quit, Banfield’s Jorge Burruchaga put an end to his tenure as coach today after beating Arsenal 2-0 yesterday.

While Santoro had announced his intentions before the match against Newell’s, Burruchaga’s decision came as a surprise to everyone, including the board of directors. While he was involved in a bit of a feud, and benched Bertolo and Bustamonte for the game against Arsenal, it did appear that the results would quieten everything down. Winning has a way of doing that, but Burruchaga had other ideas.

He becomes the sixth coach to leave his position this season.

Next on the block….Claudio Vivas. I can’t tell if his not resigning in the past 48 hours is a sign of true manhood, or if it just shows that he is that much of an idiot. 4 points from 7 matches, including a loss at home to Gimnasia de Jujuy. Balls

Looks like Russo beat him, becoming the seventh coach to go. I was of the mindset that Vivas would get a season, but I am starting to doubt that now. With results like that and what has happened with a few of the teams that replaced their coaches, he can’t be all that far away from unemployment.
