El Checho turns down el Diez
By: Jeremy | October 30th, 2008Sergio Batista turned down Diego Maradona’s offer of the assistant coaches position. Batista said that he wanted to continue working with the U-20 and the Olympic squad.
Maradona will consult with Carlos Bilardo to decide on who next to offer the position. It’s not exactly rats leaving a sinking ship yet, but a bit telling that Batista said no.

Can you post the source that gave you this information?
I don’t think you know what you are saying.
Batista and Brown have never quit the position they were offered.
There is plenty of information related to this issue on the Argy blog at WorldCup.
My sources are La Nación, Clarín, Olé, Infobae and “De una”.

I read that in La Capital. A few days after that I read that he was going to join since they were going to allow him to continue with the U-20 and that had been the reason he was turning it down.
I’ve been meaning to update the situation, but my kids have been sick and work is crazy right now. But it does appear today that neither he nor Tata will coach. In Infobae and La Capital they are posting an interview where Brown explains that everything was ready to go and then someone talked bad about them to Maradona.
Couple that with other articles that say Maradona is looking to appoint Oscar Ruggeri and Alejandro Mancuso as his assistants. Word from AFA is they want nothing to do with Ruggeri on the staff.
Checho seems to think they are still going to work with the Selection, but it all looks sketchy. I’ll get a post up later today/tonight and run down all the sites and what they are saying. Truth is, no one knows but el Diez.
