Eyes on the Prize
By: Jeremy | December 20th, 2008Tonight, San Lorenzo takes the pitch, playing for all the marbles. A season’s worth of work leads up to this game tonight. Regardless of results, their season ends tonight. A win and they take the trophy home. No waiting for next week to see if Tigre can knock Boca down. No waiting for tie breakers to sort the championship out. Just win, that is all they need to do.
For Boca, in a lot of ways their season starts tonight. What they have done thus far means nothing. As far as they are concerned they have a two game season, providing they can get any points tonight.
Both teams will be basically at full strength, and Boca comes in with a full seven days of rest, while San Lorenzo comes in on just two full days rest.
I was going to run down the history between the two and such but I’ll just let you read about it here. If you don’t read Spanish, since turning professional San Lorenzo leads the series 66 -56 with 45 draws. All time, they are even on 68 victories with 48 draws. Their last 12 ties have ended with a victor, six for each side.
This should be a great game, which you can watch here, if you don’t mind pirated internet feeds. You can also find a place to watch it here. Just scroll through the games until you see San Lorenzo – Boca Juniors and click on it. Then click on one of the channels showing the game. Try several feeds, as some are better than others. If you have Firefox, get the Remove This extension and you can completely remove (until the next visit) the annoying chat box on the side. Sometimes that helps speed up the playback.
I’d like to make a prediction, but I really don’t have a clue. I’m going to go with San Lorenzo 2-1, but I wouldn’t put any money on it.
