Looking Back at Week 11
By: Jeremy | October 28th, 2008The biggest story of the week is either San Lorenzo losing and failing to extend their lead or what was left of River’s wheels coming off in Jujuy, depending on how close to the top of the table your team is.
After following up a lifeless loss in the supersclasico against Boca with a more animated loss in the Copa Sudamericana at home to Chivas, River jumped off the deep end by losing to Gimnasia de Jujuy. Never in any world that I live in should River look so pathetic in losing to Jujuy. EVER.
How bad has it gotten? Well, if the fans chanting for the return of Ariel Ortega during the Chivas loss weren’t bad enough, they are currently in the middle of the worst streak of games in their history. A loss in the midweek tie with Newell’s Old Boys would mark the worst ten game stretch in River’s long and storied history, or so I am told by people who actually have the time on their hands to research these things.
Tigre won to keep the pressure on San Lorenzo, and are now only two points adrift, sitting on 23. Boca Juniorsn won and leap frogged Newell’s, who drew with Estudiantes, into third place with 20 points.
Rosario Central kept pace with River at the bottom of the table, losing to Boca Juniors in a game where they outplayed los Xeneize but came away with the loss 2-1.
Lanus and Godoy Cruz hooked up for a 4-3 goal fest, while on the other end of the spectrum Gimnasia (LP) and Banfield played to a 0-0 draw.

All I can say is, thank God Central lost too. Otherwise we’d be at the bottom of the table all by ourselves with all the shame.
Shame is like a bad food, it’s better to share shame than eat it all by yourself.
