Preseason Tournaments
By: Jeremy | January 1st, 2009Looks like there will be six preseason tournaments this year. Five of them are domestic deals and the sixth features a team from four different countries. Two of them are actually just on-off ties and not really tournaments, but since Boca and River play in one of them who cares?
Torneo Pentagonal, Jan 10 – 28. Played between the traditional “Big Five” of Argentine soccer – Boca Juniors, Independiente, Racing Club, River Plate, and San Lorenzo. Games occur in Mar del Plata, Mendoza, and Salta.
Copa Ciudad de Tandil, Jan 19 – 23. Featuring Arsenal, Chacarita Juniors, Godoy Cruz de Mendoza, and Quilmes.
Copa Ciudad de Cordoba, Jan 25 – Feb 1. Features Lanus, Talleres de Cordoba, and Velez-Sarsfield.
Copa Ciudad de Mendoza, Feb 1. A superclasico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Copa Ciudad Mar del Plata, Jan 31. Independiente and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata.
Torneo Ciudad de Santa Fe, Jan 23 – 25. The mini-international tournament between Colon de Santa Fe (Argentina), Defensor Sporting (Uruguay), Liberted (Paraguay), Univeritario de San Martin de Porres (Peru).
