Santoro Leaves On Own Terms
By: Jeremy | March 22nd, 2009Despite soundly thumping (and this hurts to write) Newell’s Old Boys 4-1 at home on Friday night, Pepe Santoro stepped down as coach of Independiente after the game.

Despite a decent run of form since beating arch-rivals Racing Club 2-0, Santoro’s hold on the bench has been increasingly tenuous. I didn’t get to see any of the post-game action, but a couple of online sites claim that only one or two players acted as though they were sorry to see him go.
His departure brings to the coaching casualty count to five this season, after only seven weeks.
