Sunday’s Games.

By: Jeremy | February 22nd, 2009

After the dust settled on Saturday, Newell’s Old Boys continued in the top spot, despite drawing at home to Gimnasia (J). Co-leaders Arsenal (0-1 Godoy Cruz) and Huracan (0-2 Gimnasia (LP)) both lost allowing Newell’s to pull a point clear. While they lead by goal differential, they were joined at the top by Godoy Cruz and Colon, who beat Rosario Central 2-0. Speaking of Central, now that Llop has been shown the exit, can Gustavo Alfaro be far from being the next coach to get the ax this season?

Today’s match between Rivera and Banfield (4:30 EST, watch) will add a fourth team at the top, providing there is a winner. Both clubs sit on four points, so someone is poised to join the leaders with seven points.

The early games feature Argentinos Jrs. hosting San Martin (T) (2:10 EST, watch) and a Riquelme-less Boca heading out to face Lanus (2:10 EST, watch).

The other late game, San Lorenzo at Estudiantes (4:30 EST, watch) is probably the best match of the day, although Veron is out for Estudiantes. And don’t forget to check here if the listed feeds aren’t working.

Bonus feed here. I know it’s not Argentine football, but it is one heck of a derby (and I’m a Hajduk Split fan). Football Derbies ranks it as one of the absolute best derbies in the world.
