Weekend Roundup

Ok, the top four all won, so the top of the table still looks the same. With three games to go, only four teams mathematically still have a chance to win. Lanus leads Velez by 1 and Huracan by 2 with Colon trailing by 6 points. If Colon were second and down by six, I’d say slight chance. But with three teams ahead of them, the chances of all three of them monumentally screwing up over the final three weeks are mighty slim.

So we are basically down to a three horse race at the top. Velez finishes with Lanus and Huracan on the last two weeks so there is a lot of football left to decide the title and it probably won’t happen until the last weekend of the season.

Now down at the bottom of the relegation table, Gimnasia (J) are already relegated, and San Martin (T) currently occupy the other auto relegation slot and are a whopping seven points behind Gimnasia (LP) in the last promotion playoff spot, so you can pretty much stick a fork in them.

Racing managed a draw with Gimnasia (LP) and are now five points clear of Rosario Central in the final safety spot and seven clear of Gimnasia (LP).

While not earth beaters by any means, Racing are in better form than Central, especially over the second half of the season, so the only real suspense will likely be who finishes 17th and places the 4th place team from the B for the right to play in the A next season and who finishes 18th and plays the third placed team from the B, spots currently occupied by Belgrano (Cba) (3rd) and Instituto (4th).
