Wow! What a Weekend

Boca Juniors drew at Gimnasia(LP) while the pack all won, so we head into the final round with four teams all having a legitimate shot at the title.

Boca, San Lorenzo and Tigre all sit on 36 points, with Lanus two back on 34. This is going to be an exciting finish. I’m brushing up on the tie-breaker scenario, because it is completely possible to end the week with the same three teams on top. I don’t think they go with goal differential to decide the champ. I want to say it is a playoff. Seems to me a couple of years ago when Boca and Estudiantes finished level they went to a playoff. If that is wrong, please correct me as I am too lazy to wade through the somewhat ill-designed AFA website right now.

So, Lanus needs a win and three losses to win outright. Probably not going to happen. A Lanus win and a combination of three losses and draws puts them in a playoff. Still probably not going to happen, but it is a more realistic scenario than all three teams losing.

Looking ahead to this week, we have Boca playing host to a Colon side on a two game losing streak and who haven’t won since Oct 29 (5-2 at Argentinos Juniors). San Lorenzo visits Argentinos Juniors who have drawn two in a row, but haven’t lost a game since the loss to Colon. Tigre hosts a somewhat in form Banfield, who have only recorded one loss since Sept 20. Still hoping for a miracle, Lanus hosts San Martin de Tucuman, who just snapped a four match losing streak last week at home against Newell’s Old Boys.

I haven’t seen that the game times have been announced yet, but I’ll try and get it up this weekend with links to watch the games.
